One of Kōitsu’s most popular designs, reprinted many times by the publisher since its original printing in January 1935. The artist presents us with two geishas bathed in the light of a teahouse in the early evening. Kōitsu’s marvelous handling of light is evident in this print. From the title, the teahouse is located in an alley (yokochō) in Yotsuya, Araki-cho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo. Carver was Harada and printer was Ito.

Format is Oban tate-e. Not examined outside of frame. No flaws or problems viewable in frame. Size of sheet is 10.6″x15.5″. Size of frame is 17″x21.8″. Provenance: from liveauctioneers seller Ararity Auctions of Lorton, VA.
