The print depicts a princess who was trapped by a trick of her step-mother and confined in a cage. The story of the play is about Princess Chujo who was forsaken in a mountain called Hibariyama by her step-mother who did not like the princess. Her royal nurse Jiju built a hut and trained her with care earning money from selling flowers she collected from a field. In the end, the step-mother was impressed by the nurse’s loyalty and allowed the princess to go back home again.Format is Oban yoko-e. Some toning and soiling.
