Road to Nikko (S2292)

Sold

A lone figure carrying a basket with leaves on his back walks the road to Nikko with cryptomeria trees looming above on both sides of the road. The Nikko road or “Nikkokaido” was one of the five highways (gokaido) that began from the Nihonbashi in Edo (present-day Tokyo); it ran north-south from Nihonbashi to Nikko. The other highways included the Tokaido, Nakasendo, Koshukaido and Oshukaido. The segment of the Nikkokaido illustrated here is in Tochigi Prefecture.

Please note, when orders include a framed print, your payment does not include shipping cost for framed print(s). We will send you a separate invoice for shipping once that has been calculated. If you have any questions about shipping, contact us using the links at the bottom of the page.
