Snowy day at the Red Gate of Tokyo University in Hongo. The bright red gate erected in 1827 by Maeda Nariyasu to welcome Lady Yasu-hime from the Tokugawa shogunate family as his bride. The main Hongo campus occupies the former estate of the Maeda family, Edo period feudal lords of Kaga Province. The gate became the entrance to the Tokyo National University in 1903, later moved but still in existence, it has been designated a National Treasure and an Important Cultural Property. Carver is Maeda Kentaro and printer is Tetsunosuke Honda.
