The print depicts a scene from the play Ugetsu by the playwright Komparu Zenchiku (1405-c1470). The scene in the print shows a humble woman apologizing to the famous poet Saigyo. The story of the play concerns a visit to Sumiyashi Shrine by Saigyo and a learned priest in October. When a cold rain began, the men asked for shelter in a humble hut owned by an old woman who welcomed them. When the roof began to leak, she apologized to Saigyo who later wrote a poem about the experience.

Format is Oban yoko-e. Some toning and soiling.
