The trunk is beautifully detailed with rich subtle color and calligraphic strokes to give it a rugged, textured appearance, and tiny buds can be seen on the smaller twigs. Another magpie looks up at them from the ground. Melting snow can be seen on the branches. The deep colors of the tree create a striking contrast to the soft, golden yellow sky.
