A red Torii gate stands under a bright sun with the Heian Jingu Shrine in the background. Easily the most recognizable feature of Heian Shrine is its towering red torii gate, set far beyond the main entrance. It’s true that such gates are a common sight at shrines in Japan, but this one is unique in that it stands over 24 meters tall and straddles a four-lane road, making it one of the largest torii gates in Japan.
First edition print from the Uchida Publisher archives. This print has been restored. Small tear in the bottom margin and missing some of the left corner.
