Fisherman of Sawara – Jacoulet, Paul

Fisherman of Sawara – Jacoulet, Paul

Sold

Richard Miles notes that the landscape in the background is executed without black outlines. The fisherman makes quite an alluring figure, peering over his shoulder, with a pipe held firmly between closed lips. Obviously relaxing after a hard day’s work and a successful catch.

Format large oban. Seals of the carver, Kentaro Maeda, and printer, Shunosuke Fujii, lower right margin. Published: 15 January 1936. Two small tape stains bottom margin corners, two pieces fine rice paper on top reverse margin, slightly toned, two small pinholes in left margin, otherwise very good condition.
